Combustion Characteristics of HTPB-Based Hybrid Rocket Fuels: Using Nickel Oxide as the Polymer Matrix Pyrolysis Catalyst

نویسندگان

چکیده

The slow regression rate induced by the high pyrolysis difficulty has limited application and development of hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB)-based fuels in hybrid rocket propulsion. Nickel oxide (NiO) shows possibility increasing HTPB-based catalyzing process polymer matrix our previous investigation; hence, this paper studies NiO particles thermal decomposition combustion HTPB fuel grains. DSC/TG test that can intensely decrease stability HTPB, catalytic effect is mainly reflected final stages components. 5 wt% enhances 19.4% 13.7% under an oxygen mass flux 50 kg/m2s 150 kg/m2s, respectively. Further investigation will also cause reduction heat agglomeration at regressing surface while process, improving conductivity, promoting radiative transfer fuels; thus, more additive (5 < [NiO] ≤ 10 wt%) does not lead to a faster fuels. This study demonstrates on for fuels, showing attractive prospects HTPB-containing

Analytical and Experimental Comparisons of HTPB and ABS as Hybrid Rocket Fuels

Acrylonitrilebutadiene-styrene (ABS) thermoplastic is evaluated as a potential fuel for hybrid rocket motors and compared to the widely used fuel material Hydroxyl-Terminated Polybutadiene (HTPB). For this project Nitrous Oxide (N2O) is used as the matching oxidizer. ABS is widely mass-produced for non-combustion applications including household plumbing and structural materials. Analytical pre...

Catalyst-assisted Conversion of Pyrolysis Bio-oil into Fuels

The aldol condensation of model compounds furfural and acetone on the selected base catalysts have been performed. The activity of MgO was compared with industrially produced hydrotalcite and the series laboratory prepared hydrotalcites. Si×MAl2O4 hydrotalcites (M = Mg, Zn, Ni, Co, Cu, and Fe) were prepared by the solgel method at low calcination temperature of 300°C. The properties of the cata...

A Model of Ap/htpb Composite Propellant Combustion in Rocket-motor Environments

A comprehensive theoretical/numerical model for treating AP/HTPB composite-propellant combustion in a rocket-motor environment is presented. The formulation takes into account the conservation equations in both the gas and condensed phases, and accommodates finiterate chemical kinetics and variable thermophysical properties. The processes in the two phases are coupled at the surface to determin...
